How to Print Files Using Your Android Smartphone

There are several methods for printing files from your Android phone. Not only has Android improved its printing capabilities, but the best inkjet and photo printers have received new features to support wireless printing. We’ll be focusing on Android devices in this guide.

Print Using Google Cloud Print

Google Cloud Print is a technology that allows you to print files from any device, anywhere — whether or not you’re connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the printer. It’s the best way to print from Android devices because it’s built into the operating system, so there’s no need to download or manage any third-party software. To use Cloud Print, you must first complete a few steps, which are outlined below. If Cloud Print isn’t already installed on your smartphone, you can get it from the Google Play Store.

  1. Open the Settings app on your Android phone and search for “Printing.” Tap the Printing option that appears. This setting can also be found in Settings > Connected devices > Connection preferences > Printing.
  2. Select Cloud Print. There may be a few other options on the list, and you can try them out if you want — but for the sake of simplicity, we recommend sticking with Cloud Print for the time being.
  3. Select Add printer from the menu button in the upper right-hand corner.
  4. Cloud Print will look for printers that are connected to your Wi-Fi network. When you tap on your printer, it should be connected and ready to use.
  5. Go to the file or photo that you want to print. This could be an email from the Gmail app, a Google Chrome image, or anything else.
  6. If it’s available, tap the three-dot menu button in the upper right-hand corner to find an option to print or “Export” the document, or something similar. If it isn’t available, you may need to save an image or file to your gallery or device and access it via the Android Files or Google Photos apps to print it.
  7. Select the Print option.
  8. Cloud Print should connect to the printer you’ve added automatically, but if you’ve added more than one, you’ll need to tap on the one you want to use.
  9. Select the number of copies to print and the paper size. By tapping on the down arrow, you can also select more options. You can then select whether you want to print a color or black-and-white image, the page orientation, and so on.
  10. On the right side of the screen, tap the blue printer icon.
