How to block or subscribe to emails in Gmail?

If you get emails that you do not wish to receive in your Gmail inbox, you may block or unsubscribe from the sender, or you can report the message to Gmail.

Important note: If someone uses Gmail to harass, intimidate, or threaten you, they are breaking one of Gmail’s Program Policies. If you believe you are in danger, call your local authorities immediately and inquire whether cyber harassment laws apply to your circumstance.

Block an email address

When you block a sender, all of their communications are sent to your Spam folder.

  1. Navigate to Gmail on your PC.
  2. Open the email.
  3. Click More More in the upper right corner.
  4. Select Block [sender].

Tip: If you accidentally blocked someone, you may unblock them by following the same instructions.

Unsubscribe from group emails

If you signed up for a site that sends out a lot of emails, such as promotions or newsletters, you may stop receiving these emails by clicking the unsubscribe link.

  1. Navigate to Gmail on your PC.
  2. Open an email from the sender from whom you wish to unsubscribe.
  3. Click Unsubscribe or Change preferences next to the sender’s name. If you don’t see these options, proceed as described above to block the sender or label the communication as spam.

Tip: After you unsubscribe, it may take a few days for the emails to stop.
