The firewall will occasionally prevent trustworthy programs from connecting to the internet, but Windows 10 makes it simple to adjust the settings to manually let apps over the firewall.
Windows 10 has various security measures that safeguard your device and data from unwanted access, viruses, and other threats, including a strong built-in firewall known as Microsoft Defender Firewall.
Although the Microsoft Defender Firewall performs a decent job of regulating which programs and features are permitted to connect to the network, you may need to manually approve or refuse an app from time to time.
Allow programs to pass across the firewall in Windows 10
Follow these procedures to let an app via the Windows 10 firewall:
1: Launch Windows Security.
2: Select Firewall and network protection.
3: Select the Allow an app through the firewall option.
4: Click the Change settings button.
5: Examine the program or function you wish to be able to use over the Windows 10 firewall.
Take Note: If the application is not on the list, you can click the “Allow another app…” button to add the application manually.
6: Check to see what kind of networks an app may connect to:
- Private – This allows the app to connect to your home or work network.
- Public – This allows the app to connect to the network in a public location.
7: Then press the OK button.
Once you’ve completed the instructions, the app will have full network access.
If you wish to ban an app through the firewall, repeat the steps indicated above, but make sure to uncheck the tick for the app or feature you want to prevent network access to on step No. 5.
